Method
Preparation
Preheat your oven according to the chocolate cake mix instructions. Prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Stir until well blended and smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake according to the package instructions, usually about 30-35 minutes.
Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.
Assembly
Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl until fine crumbs form.
Add chocolate frosting to the cake crumbs and mix until well combined. The mixture should be moist and hold together when rolled.
Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter), and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Insert a lollipop stick into each ball, then freeze them for about 15-30 minutes to firm up.
Coating
Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
Dip each cake pop into the melted chocolate, ensuring even coverage. Let the excess drip off.
If desired, decorate with sprinkles before the chocolate sets.
Place cake pops upright in a styrofoam block, or return to the parchment-lined baking sheet to set completely.
Notes
Feel free to substitute the chocolate cake mix with vanilla or any other flavor you prefer. For a fun twist, consider adding flavored extracts like vanilla or almond to the frosting. Store the cake pops in an airtight container in a cool place for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
