Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring often, until golden and caramelized. Tip: Don’t rush this step! The sweeter your onions are, the more flavor they’ll bring to the dish.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  5. Drain excess fat, then stir in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  6. Let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes for the flavors to come together.
  7. While simmering, toast the hamburger buns until golden.
  8. Scoop the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, top with shredded Swiss cheese, and place the top bun.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving, if desired.

Notes

Ingredient Substitutions: If you’re looking for a leaner option, ground turkey or chicken works well. You can also use provolone or mozzarella cheese if Swiss isn’t available. Optional Variations: For a kick of flavor, consider adding some sautéed mushrooms or a splash of hot sauce to the beef mixture. Storage or Reheating Tips: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop, adding a splash of water to keep the mix moist.
