Ingredients

For the Casserole
  • 8 slices 8 slices of bread Can use your favorite type of bread.
  • 2 cups 2 cups of blueberries Feel free to substitute with raspberries or chopped apples.
  • 6 large 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Butter for greasing
  • Maple syrup for serving Drizzle generously before serving.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and spread half of it evenly in the prepared dish.
  3. Sprinkle half of the blueberries over the layer of bread cubes.
  4. Add the remaining bread cubes and top with the rest of the blueberries.
  5. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  6. Pour this egg mixture evenly over the bread and blueberries.
  7. Press down slightly with a spatula or your hands to ensure the bread absorbs the liquid.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the middle. A toothpick should come out clean when inserted.
  2. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
